Bladnoch Distillery

Founded in 1817, Bladnoch is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries with over 200 years of eventful history and has always been privately owned. It is nestled between lush green meadows in the county of Dumfries & Galloway, making it the most southerly distillery in the country.

„Queen of the lowlands“ The distillery was affectionately known as the „Queen of the lowlands“ and has undergone several changes of ownership. A new era began in 2015 with the takeover by Australian David Prior. His connection to the region and his immense passion for whisky led him to the decision to acquire the historic distillery. The fine single malts, distilled under the hand of Master Distiller Nick Savage, are characterised by a creamy and floral base note. A comparatively low alcohol content, elevated mashing temperatures and particularly slow fermentation emphasise the velvety notes.

The view sweeps over wide rolling hills and barley fields, a fresh breeze blows. The lightness that can be found in the landscape of the Scottish Lowlands is characteristic of the whiskies that are produced there. They also differ from those of the other five whisky regions in Scotland (Highlands, Speyside, Islands, Islay and Campbeltown) when it comes to production. This is because the Lowland distilleries traditionally do not add peat when drying the barley. Lowland single malts are therefore lighter in colour, smoother, fruity and dry. They often also have charming nutty, lemony and grassy flavours. This is also the case with the whiskies from Bladnoch Distillery.

In the southern Lowlands, where there are only a few distilleries, a mild whisky style is cultivated. What is highly valued among connoisseurs as a speciality is also a real insider tip for whisky beginners!

Didier Joris

Didier Joris is a legendary figure in the Valais, where the history of wine would be unthinkable without him. He grew up in a farming family that initially concentrated on raising cattle. To this very day, Didier still raves about «his Queens», the Hérens fighting cows. It was only during the 1960s and 1970s that the Joris family began to terrace slopes to plant vines and cultivate vineyards.
