Gamaret

Still mysterious, even though tested through and through

This red grape variety is a new breed from the Swiss Federal Institute of Agronomy (Agroscope ACW Changins) in Pully. André and Dominique Maigre Jaquinet crossed the Gamay and Reichensteiner varieties in 1970. Then, in 1991, the variety joined the Swiss variety list. Gamaret was tested on 120 parcels of land. In total, around four hectares were planted on all major soil types. In the meantime, the variety scattered throughout the entire canton.

Wine pressed from it presents itself somewhat mysteriously. Often very dark with violet hues, it is spicy in aroma and well-structured. Gamaret can be forgotten in the cellar without guilt; it is very long-lasting, and still pleases with age.
