Description

Picolit is Italy’s most precious dessert wine made from low-yielding but delicately sweet, flavour-packed white grapes. Produced exclusively in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in the North-East of the country within a mere 400 acres of vineyards, it was once considered one of the ‘Noble Grapes’ of the Courts of Europe. Protected under the Denominazionedi Origine Controllata (DOC), used casks are very difficult to come by, but as this Glenlossie 2009 single malt proves, they are well worth uncovering. Old Picolit casks have never been used to Mature Scotch Whisky, and this is another industry first from The Whisky Cellar. Typical notes of the wine have imparted themselves on this deliciously complex whisky following a period of secondary maturation. A hint of toasted oak accompanies this single malt, followed by aromas of tropical fruit salad, candied citrus peel, green tea and forest floor. The palate tastes of oak spice, buttered brioche, bitter lemon, acacia flowers, light honey and pepper. Flavours of waxy citrus peel, grapefruit and Golden Delicious apple round out this whisky and leave a warming mouthfeel.
