Calvados: Apfelpower aus der Normandie
Für Geniesser ist die Normandie die Heimat der drei grossen «C». Diese stehen für den Camenbert, den Cidre und den Calvados. Der Calvados ist der prestigeträchtigste aller Apfelbranntweine. Er wird im Hinterland des Ärmelkanals zwischen Le Mont-Saint-Michel und Le Havre aus ausgewählten Apfelsorten angebaut. Exklusive Spezialitäten sind vor allem die jahre-, oder gar jahrzehntelang im Holzfass gereiften Brände, die unter Bezeichnungen wie «Hors d‘Age» oder «X.O.», sowie als Jahrgangs-Abfüllungen auf den Markt kommen.

France – Philosophy in a bottle
According to French philosophy, wine should be an expression of the soil and climate. They use the word “terroir” to describe this. Terroir makes every wine different, and many especially good. French wine is regarded worldwide as an expression of cultural perfection. The French believe that humans are responsible for the quality of the berries, the vine variety for their character, and nature for the quantity. This philosophy can be expressed succinctly as: “the truth is the vineyard, not the man.”
